September 2023

Since arriving back in Bolivia three weeks ago from my visit in the United States, a lot has happened with the girls at Ruth’s House.

Helen is thoroughly enjoying this stage in her life. She recently participated in a large dance festival where students from various schools put on traditional Bolivian dances. Helen invited all of us at Ruth’s House to attend, along with one of her best friends, Clara, from Talita Cumi. Helen danced her heart out.

One of the requirements of participating in the Ruth’s House ministry is that you return to the children’s home where you grew up and give back with your gained expertise from work or school. Our dream as a ministry is to cultivate a long lasting cycle of girls who return to the home to not only give back, but also encourage the younger girls and show them that their future is hopeful. In this spirit, Helen returned to Talita Cumi along with classmates from her gastronomy course to prepare a breakfast and lunch for the girls.

Please keep Helen and Ruth in your prayers. Regina and I will be be helping Helen make decisions about what she’d like to do in terms of schooling and work for next year. Ruth also needs prayer as she gets accustomed to studying medicine at the university level. She is in the process of reorganizing her life to confront a more grueling schedule.

As always, please keep the girls’ walk with the Lord in your prayers. They are attending church every Sunday and Regina leads them in devotions. May they continue to mature in the Lord as the days go by.

In addition to Helen and Ruth, please keep Ana (pictured below) and Clara (pictured above) in your prayers. They are the two oldest girls at Talita Cumi. Ana has already decided to participate in the ministry and Clara will be making a decision later this year.

As much as I enjoy visiting everyone in the United States, it’s not easy being away from these boys:

Last Saturday we attended an extended night of praise and worship. At the end of the service, the pastor invited people to go to the front for a time of special prayer, and two of the boys went forward. I saw the Lord’s sovereign hand at work, particularly considering that these two boys are going through some unusually trying times right now.

Please keep the boys and the girls in your prayers, especially that the Lord would incline their hearts toward Him as they seek answers for their past, and refuge and peace for their souls.
