June 2023

We received Helen into Ruth’s House. Before she left Talita Cumi we had a beautiful 18th birthday celebration for her at the children’s home. All of the children were in attendance, many of the uncles and aunts at the home, and a group of Helen’s friends from school too. A number of the children sang or put on dances, many people shared words of encouragement for Helen, and even Helen spoke, giving thanks to the aunties who had raised her over the past several years.

Helen is a kind and intelligent young woman with a lot of potential and dreams. She has a strong desire to find lost relatives and visit family members who live on the other side of the country in La Paz. Please pray that we can help her realize those dreams. Beyond that, Helen will finish her high school studies this year, along with her gastronomy course that she takes in the evenings. Her desire is to major in nutrition at university and learn English so that she can study abroad in the United States. Please pray for her and the Ruth’s House team as we seek to guide her in wisdom.

At Talita Cumi, we’re going through a season of transition not only with the departure of Helen, but also the departure of volunteers too (pictured below). Adi (second from the left), is an Indonesian missionary who has been with us for about nine months and will be heading back to his country in the near future. Adi has been instrumental in helping Talita Cumi with all of its computer needs. Talis (second from the right), a Bolivian, helps educate the children and teaches Bible lessons to the younger kids on Saturdays. She will be leaving soon to study in the United States. Rebekah (far right), served with us for three months and has already returned to the U.S. to study immigration law at UCLA. Jessica (middle) is a teacher at a Christian school and she too will be moving back to California after spending several years here in the mission field. The five of used to gather together on a weekly basis to read, study, and discuss St. Augustine’s “Confessions.”

The children have one more month of school before they enjoy a 2-3 week break in July. Beyond staying busy with their studies, they helped host a fair at the home, they’ve been learning a lot from church and university groups that do activities at the home, and a number of the younger children recently participated in a dance celebration at primary school.

In closing, please pray for Helen’s transition to Ruth’s House, her future dreams to visit and find family members, and her growth in the Lord. Please pray for Ruth as she works at the children’s home where she grew up and as she prepares herself for medical school which starts this August.

Please keep the children in your prayers, especially their salvation in the Lord and the emotional healing that they need to experience in the Lord too.

Thank you!
